Camping with Bogusław Fedyczkowski, Ella, Andrew and myself in the Warrumbungle National Park, near Coonabarabran, and at Lightning Ridge, New South Wales.
Each of us, I think, enjoyed this short holiday. We travelled through the Blue Mountains, stopping at Govetts Leap. Later, we stopped at the information centre at Coonabarabran to look at some fossilised bones. Blackberry picking was next on the agenda—thorns and all! A visit to the Warrumbungle Observatory that evening allowed me to take my very first telescope photograph; I also tried taking photos of star trails later that night.
A visit to Siding Springs Observatory was next, followed by a long drive to Lightning Ridge, “opal capital of New South Wales.” Notice the flooding from the rains that previous month—plenty of mosquitos! The mines were OK for a visit, but unfortunately we didn’t find any opals ourselves. Such is life!
