A beautiful day out ending less than desirably! I rode out on my Honda SL230 road/trail motorcycle to Kanangra Walls via Jenolan Caves, then to Mount Werong, Wombeyan Caves and the Wollondilly River crossing via the Pass of Killiecrankie.
Unfortunately, ten hours of mostly rough roads took their toll: a moment’s loss of concentration saw the bike’s front tyre catch on a protruding rock, causing the bike to flip 270 degrees, then drag me under the bike for a number of metres. I was doing about 40km/h at the time.
Proper riding gear undoubtedly saved me from significant injuries, although I twisted my right leg rather badly and managed to snap off my left thumb. I am very thankful to God, however, as it could have been much worse: the road was on the edge of a 170 metre cliff, with minimal protection from going over.
The final photo shows the aftermath of the accident: I picked up the bike, checked it over (smashed left mirror, slightly bent right foot peg), hopped on and rode for another three hours back home. Yes, it was very painful. But, after all, I was some 50km from the nearest town and couldn’t just stay in the bush…
